Amy Likar, flute and piccolo, is
a member of the Oakland East Bay Symphony. As a freelance musician,
she has performed with the Berkeley Symphony, the Ashland Symphony,
the Wheeling Symphony, Lamplighter's Music Theatre, and Festival
Opera. She performs in the Alcyone Ensemble with flutist Rena Urso-Trapani and in Trio Concertino with violist Madeline Prager
and pianist Miles Graber. She released a studio CD
in 2005 with pianist Miles Graber and a live album with soprano
Jenni Cook and Miles Graber in 2006. She'll be premiering a new work by Steven Hofer in February 2010 written for her and soprano Jenni Cook. In 2009 she launched The Piccolo Project where she is commissioning several new works for piccolo.
She has taught at The Ohio State University
and Ashland University. As an active chamber musician she has performed
at Ashland University, The Ohio State University, Baldwin-Wallace,
Ohio Wesleyan University, Capital University, Kent State University,
Willamette University, the Berkeley Art Center and other venues
in the Bay Area of California. 
She holds Master of Music and Doctor of Musical
Arts degrees from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor's in
Music Education and Flute Performance from Kent State University.
While at Ohio State University, Ms. Likar was the recipient of a
Presidential Fellowship and a Graduate Student Alumni Research Award
for her DMA document on the history of the New York Woodwind Quintet.
In addition in 2000, she was awarded the Peter A. Costanza Award
for Outstanding DMA Document. An article from her document was published
in the Spring 2005 issue of the Flutist Quarterly. As a teacher
at Ohio State, she was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Teaching
Associate Award. She has also studied at the Conservatoire National
de Nice, France. Her flute teachers include Martha Aarons, Katherine
Borst Jones, Randy Hester, Peter Lloyd and Tim Day. In 1991-92,
Ms. Likar taught high school English in Swaziland, Southern Africa.
Ms. Likar maintains an active studio and coaches
young students to professionals. She works with singers and instrumentalists
on enhancing greater freedom and ease both physically and musically.
